I added an external, manual switch to my Anafi controller. It works great. I plan to do the same to my Skydio controller when I get it.
There is more to this than just interrupting the battery supply. The existing switch is normally open when the controller is opened up and closed when the controller is closed.

So it's a normally closed switch. Or effectively, like most devices, the on/off switch doesn't interrupt the power supply, like unplugging your TV from the wall, but signals the system to go into an "off" or in most cases, a standby/hibernation mode. Very interesting.
