Hi all - The same day FAA's final rule on remote ID was made public, I emailed Skydio asking them how they will make current and future SD2s compliant. It looks like that SD2 drones will be made compliant with Option 1. Here it is...

"Thanks for reaching out. We have been closely tracking this issue and are working with the FAA to ensure that our current and future products will be in compliance with the new framework. We are committed to making Skydio 2’s in use now compliant with the new rule (likely via software updates).
We will share more information on the implementation timeline as it becomes available. Before any manufacturer can comply with the rule, the FAA must approve standards that establish ways of complying with the regulation. We expect that process to take time to complete, and it’s important to remember that drone operators have until late 2023 to comply.

A few notes regarding the FAA's rule on Operations Over People:
Recreational/consumer customers are not impacted. The new rule only applies to operations under Part 107. It does not apply to recreational pilots.
Public sector customers are not impacted. The new rule has no impact on our public sector customers, which can already fly Skydio drones over people pursuant to FAA Certificates of Authorization. We are proud to have a 100% safety record in authorized operations over people.
Commercial customers are not impacted:
  • You can continue to fly our products under Part 107.
  • We are reviewing the new rule to determine whether it could apply to our products.
  • It is important to note that, before anyone can comply with the new rule, the FAA must adopt a “means of compliance” that outlines the technical requirements that will allow manufacturers or operators to comply with the rule. The FAA expects that process to take 9-12 months.
Going forward, we will continue to stand up for our customers. As we have further information, we'll keep customers informed of our approach to Remote ID and other regulatory developments."

I received a similar response:
Thanks for reaching out. We have been closely tracking these new rulings and are working with the FAA to ensure that our current and future products will be in compliance with the new framework. We are committed to enabling Skydio 2’s in use now to be compliant with the new rule.

The new rule goes into effect for operators in late 2023 (likely September 2023). We will share more information on the implementation timeline as it becomes available. Before any manufacturer can comply with the rule, the FAA must approve standards that establish ways of complying with the regulation. We expect that process to take months to complete, and it’s important to remember that drone operators have until late 2023 to comply.

We will continue to keep our customers informed of our approach to Remote ID and other regulatory developments. This link contains the FAA’s overview of remote ID for operators: UAS Remote Identification Overview
